29 years without real surgery

On Wednesday I get things poked into my nose for two an half hours. As I said in a previous post I’m having my sinus operated on to improve the drainage and hopefully reduce the frequency and severity of the sinus infections I’ve been getting.  As I get near to the date I’ve realize that … Read more

Facebook on buy in and validation

This is an interesting excerpt from the New York Times as it’s related to empowering a community, it’s challenges, and how they’ve managed to channel the empowerment constructively in spite of the fact that they aren’t acting on it. I found it remarkable that they have bought in and validated their consumers in a way … Read more

Scared Witless

I also know that all of this is an irrational feeling, one that is based on our irrational programming.

When it comes to rational verse irrational, irrational generally wins, and that’s why you have markets that panic and cause devastation. That’s why people irrationally do things (like save money) when the best thing for our market is to spend money. (Assuming that our market is sustainable and sensible, which I won’t stipulate.)

Breaking bubbles

Living in DC describes a bubble of existence, where one can spend years living here and forget what the rest of American really is and almost neglect to consider what the rest of the world’s fate is. Little ants at the Inaguration of Obama

This is long out of the news by now, but some of you expressed interest in my experience at the Inaguration so I thought I might reflect on it for a bit. Overall I found it an experience that was heartwarming and tiring with a minor undercurrent of frustration.  I’ll lay this out chronologicly.  I … Read more

100 days to settle in

It dawned on me when I was listening to the Daily Show talk about Obama’s mea culpa on his day 15 of being in the White House, that the first 100 days of any White House is destin to screw up quite a bit. Most new people in any job take somewhere around 3 months … Read more

A tiring tide

Stand in front of the elevator, thinking about the 8 hours of work you are trying to accomplish and all the things you are falling behind on, or should do, and how exhausted you are wanting only to take a nap, all the while realizing that this is irrational, “not really you,” and just a manifestation of the depression makes you all of a sudden just want the tide to break… Even if it’s just for a few hours.

A Smarter Smartrip

For those of you in DC, you might want to keep tabs on my A Smarter Smartrip page as it might turn out to be a useful way to improve your SmarTrip experience. As I explain on the page: I’ve grown to loath these SmarTrip cards because they break or get lost.  It’s a pain … Read more
